Iain SwanstonScott Gillies will be joined for Sunday Roast this week by Iain Swanston, Pirate Radio Pioneer!

Iain Swanston born, 28 March 1959 has had an interest in radio from a very early age. At 10 years old he had a make shift radio studio in his bedroom, complete with its own news desk! In the late 60’s, Iain became an avid listener to the Edinburgh Pirate Radio Station, Radio Caroline Scotland which broadcast at weekends and with that, the seed was planted.

At the age of 15, Iain was already broadcasting to his neighbours with a very small FM radio transmitter. at the age 18 Iain acquired a Medium Wave transmitter from the London pirate station, Radio Jackie and with that, launched Radio Telstar. A year later Iain acquired the much more powerful Medium Wave transmitter which was previously used by Radio Caroline Scotland and regular weekend and bank holiday broadcasts began. On Air, Iain was better known as Brian Scott.

RTI became a much loved Radio Station in the Edinburgh,Lothians and fife area with many of its Presenters moving onto legal stations after RTI closed down in 1984.

Tune in a 11am Sunday 14th. Only on Radio Saltire!
