Radio Saltire IconAs you’re (hopefully) aware, Radio Saltire is moving house. Unfortuntely it is necessary to close down our studio so that we can move it to our new premises. This means that we will move to an automated system for the rest of today and most of tomorrow.

If all goes to plan, live programming will start from our new premises at 8pm Wednesday 13th August.

Sorry for the inconvenience but we couldn’t avoid the downtime. More pics and news about the new studios is Coming Soon!

**Edit** Unfortunately we’re experiencing some technical problems and our Studio stream is breaking up. Hopefully this will be fixed sometime during Thursday. Our live schedule will continue as soon as possible.

Thanks for your patience.

Radio Saltire are delighted to announce that we’re moving house!

New Radio Saltire Studios

We’ve had a great year at Unit One Studio’s and we’ll always be grateful to our landlady for giving us the option of more space and encouraging us to try out Tranent. The move and re-brand a year ago was extremely successful and we’ve seen the station grow at an incredible pace. So now we need somewhere BIGGER!!!

Civic Square, Tranent

Luckily, we didn’t have to wait too long before a new opportunity came our way. We wanted somewhere bigger but we didn’t want to move very far. Luckily, our dreams came true and we pick up the keys today for our new premises at 5 Civic Square – just down the road!

We need to do a little bit of work inside but the plan is to start broadcasting from there within the next few weeks. So busy times ahead.

Fancy getting involved?

Radio Saltire always welcomes new members to our team. Of course, presenters are important but there’s a whole lot of work to be done behind the scenes too.

Everyone has a skill we could use in some way, so why not give us a shout? Email info@radiosaltire.org with a phone number and we’ll call you back for a chat.

OSCR LogoThe Trustees of Radio Saltire are delighted to announce that the station has been granted Charity Status.

Radio Saltire management applied to the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) to allow the station to be registered as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO). OSCR agreed that the organisation meets the “Charity Test” and granted Charity Status issuing the number SC044336.

The published aims of Radio Saltire [SCIO] are:

  1. To advance community development and citizenship by:
    1. Encouraging the involvement and promotion of community organisations and events through the use of the community radio station.
    2. Encouraging volunteering at all levels of the organisation by all interested members of our community.
  2. To advance education by:
    1. Offering training and the opportunity to learn about all the roles involved in the running of the community radio station.

The Trustees of Radio Saltire [SCIO] said:

We are absolutely delighted by this news. We feel that our plans are really starting to come together and Radio Saltire is moving forward. This has been a fantastic year for the station and we are proud that big organisations like OSCR and the Lottery Commission are supporting our work.

Our new name, new studios and new address are helping us to galvanise our place in our community. Now that we have these solid foundations in place, our work and the work of our volunteers can continue to bring big benefits to both the local area and further afield.

Are YOU Interested In Volunteering?

Radio Saltire always has space for more volunteers. If you’re interested in getting involved, use the form on our Contact Page to get in touch.

Radio-Saltire-LogoYou already know that we are moving to Tranent but because our new studios are not quite ready, we’ve moved in to some temporary accommodation at Saltoun Towers.

Moving to Saltoun Towers allows us to leave behind our small and rather warm room in Haddington but it is a little remote. This will make it difficult for some of our presenters to access. We will endeavour to provide as near to normal service as possible and apologise for any unavoidable disruption.

Our intention is to move into our Tranent studios as quickly as we can but this is a major project for us and we want to take the time to get it right.

If you want to contact the Studio you can use our Contact Form as usual. Alternatively, use our mobile number to phone or text our presenters:

You can also follow the new Radio Saltire pages on Twitter and Facebook. Check in to see all our “New Studio Photos”.

The New Name for East Lothian FM

Radio Saltire LogoAs many of our listeners know, ELFM was recently awarded a grant to help us upgrade our studio. We wanted to increase our space to make it easier to accommodate visitors, bands and guests whilst improving our disabled access and creating a more suitable environment for our hardworking volunteers.

Our project is going to plan and our new premises in Tranent, East Lothian are gradually taking shape. There was one bit of news we kept back though.

When we move to Tranent, East Lothian FM will become Radio Saltire.

We think the new name better describes our aims and objectives. The Salitre is an icon of Scotland so is relevant to our many overseas listeners but it is also synonymous with East Lothian. Our county was the birthplace of our national flag so we think it is a great symbol to represent a station listened to globally but born in East Lothian.

Whilst the name East Lothian FM celebrates our locality, it doesn’t acknowledge our global audience. We believe Radio Saltire will help our audience recognise our brand worldwide whilst maintaining our local roots.

 Keep Up With Our News
