When the BBC decided that they no longer wanted the kind of show Mike produced and presented, he was faced with two alternatives; he could retire ungracefully, go off fly fishing somewhere and play his banjo – or he could carry on making the shows that more than 800,000 people seemed to have liked and followed.
Fortunately, for us he chose the latter and we are pleased to be able to welcome Mike to Radio Saltire every week with his own special brand of Folk Show, which he has made his own.
‘The Mike Harding Folk Show’ features music from all over the globe – but with a leaning towards British ‘Folk’.
Mike sources his material from the immense collection of recordings he has gathered (and continues to gather) around him over the years whilst also following closely the career and development of new musicians that are as yet relatively unknown – to bring us a veritable mix of both traditional and newer ‘folk’ music every week.
Join the ‘Rochdale Cowboy’ himself, his special kind of music and of course the unique humour for which he is famed, every week – right here on Radio Saltire.
The BBC’s loss is Radio Saltire’s gain.
