Iain Swanston

iain-swanstonBorn in 1959 and brought up in Edinburgh I have, since my early teens had a keen interest in the local radio scene.

At the age of just 15 I launched my own Pirate Radio Station, Radio Telstar. Telstar became a very well known and popular station throughout the Edinburgh area and continued until 1984. Since then I have dabbled with various Radio opportunities but for one reason or another never found the right one, until now! Thanks to a good friend of mine, Mark Snow who introduced me to the guys at Saltire.

I have lived in The Borders for around 30 years. I’m married have 3 grown up kids and 2 grandkids together with a whole variety of pets. The majority of my extended family live in and around the Musselburgh area.

Over the years I have worked in various industries from working as a Mobile DJ, running a nightclub and in Electronics. Today I work as a Service Controller with a well known bus company and for the last 20 years I have also ran a home shopping business in my spare time.

Scott Gillies asked me along to his Sunday show to talk about my pirate radio days and that brought the radio bug back to me.

I am now pleased and excited to be presenting the regular Saturday show, ‘Ultimate 70’s’. You can look forward to hearing the very best in 70’s Rock and Pop music together with lots of fun, chat and a few surprises.

I hope you will join me every Saturday afternoon from 3pm for ‘Ultimate 70’s’, only here on Radio Saltire.
