With Healthy Start, you get free vouchers every week to spend on milk, plain fresh and frozen fruit and vegetables, infant formula milk – and vitamins too.

You can find out if you could get Healthy Start vouchers and vitamin coupons by answering a few simple questions on the Healthy Start website.

A quarter of eligible families are missing out and the uptake is quite low in some East Lothian towns.

The Healthy Start website is easy to use and includes recipes and healthy living advice as well as an information sheet about the scheme to give to retailers that may not be aware of it.  You can also get local advice by searching #Gethealthystart on Facebook.

Yester's new owners, Gareth and Nicola Wood

Yester House, the magnificent East Lothian seat of the Hay Marquises of Tweeddale, has been sold.

Following the death of the 11th Marquis in 1967, the house was acquired by Gian Carlo Menotti, the Italian American composer.  His heir, Francis Menotti, put the estate on the market in 2008 for £15 million, when it was billed as the most expensive house in Scotland.

Despite the best efforts of agents Knight Frank, the house attracted little interest, even after the price was nearly halved to £8 million. Now, five years on, Yester has been sold to Gareth and Nicola Wood for an undisclosed sum.

Mr Wood is the son of Aberdeen oil tycoon Sir Ian Wood, and his wife, also from Aberdeen, is former Miss Scotland Nicola Jolly.  It is understood that the Woods are working with East Lothian Council and Historic Scotland on plans to develop the estate.

Yester, which has been described as ‘the best house in Scotland,’ is largely the work of Scottish architect William Adam, although it was begun as early as 1697 for John Hay, second Marquis of Tweeddale.

This week we will be keeping one eye on the football at Easter Road whilst wallowing in some really Great golden oldies from yesteryear.

Our ‘Year Under The Spotlight’ is 1991, the year high unemployment, rioting in cities around Britain and start of the Gulf War were making the headlines. Our music was being provided by the likes of Bryan Adams, Rick Astley, Zuccero (remember him?) and Jason Donovan.

As usual, we will be tracking the progress of out ‘Vintage Chart’ from May 1965 and to round everything off, we’ll enjoy a last hour of pure nostalgia with some great stuff I’ve dug up from my collection in the crypts of Sunny Dunny – and will include this week’s ‘Children’s Favourite’, which I’m sure will invoke some fond memories for many of you.

So if you want the best of both worlds – kept up to speed with the Hibs v Rangers game and the finest Golden Oldies show on the wireless today, join me, Andy Morris at noon on Saturday right here on Radio Saltire and you can have the lot for the price of one…..

The GREAT Golden Oldies Show.
ONLY on Radio Saltire.

SafeZone – Volunteering from ACE Productions on Vimeo.

What is SafeZone?

SafeZone is a fully adapted and equipped, bright yellow single decker bus. Staffed completely by volunteers, it’s a place where you can find help on Friday and Saturday nights in Edinburgh. It’s free, non-judgmental and open to anyone who becomes vulnerable while in the city centre on weekends.

What does SafeZone do? They provide:

·         Support

·         Advice

·         First Aid

·         Welfare support to ensure the visitor gets home safely

Whatever problem you have, SafeZone can offer help –

If you get lost, if you or your friends need first aid due to an accident, alcohol or drugs, are roofless for the night, have been assaulted or suffered domestic abuse, needing someone to talk to or even just need somewhere warm and safe to wait for a taxi.

They can help you straight away or signpost you to other services.

Just drop by the bus, call them on 079 2070 6568 or ask bar staff, community police officers, and Taxi Marshalls or Street pastors to contact us for you.

Where is it?

SafeZone can be found at Cathedral Lane, by the Omni Centre from 10pm until 4am, every Friday and Saturday night.

We were contacted recently by Kasha Jarosz, a Connecting Communities Officer with Voluntary Action – Orkney who is based at their Offices in Kirkwall.
VA Orkney are examining the possibilities of setting up a new Internet Radio Station which will serve the Orkney Community and have and turned to us for some advice.
Kasha met with some of our Trustees at the studio and we are more than happy to help.
It is hoped that we can establish a permanent link between ourselves and the new station and have offered to assist them in any way we can.
