Wiggles - Loch Centre

After five years of fundraising, countless walks, runs, swims, bake sales, funding applications, and donations, the Moyra McNeil Fund along with enjoyleisure and East Lothian Council are delighted to announce the pending arrival of the new Loch Centre Soft Play facility, Wiggles!  Designed to inspire the imagination and challenge the adventurous, Wiggles will be a themed multi-level soft play area full of obstacles and hidden surprises. Kids will love clambering through the crawl tunnel, crossing the rope bridge, navigating the ball run, descending the slide, clambering over the wobble wedge floors, sneaking through the mouse holes and tackling the Nessie obstacle course!

Housed within the 3 levels of adventure soft play, there will be a dedicated play zone for under 2s featuring a step, block and slide; sensory play pad; wobbly mirrors; motorbike puzzle builder and musical piano!

Wiggles will have its own café facility, serving a range of refreshments and light snacks, with parental seating area and function space which will be used to cater birthday parties and the Loch Centre’s weekday crèche facility.

Wiggles will be officially opened at a private evening event hosted by the Moyra McNeil Fund and enjoyleisure on Friday 27th February, with its doors opening to the public for the first time on Saturday 28th February from 9.30am.

Susan Tully and Kirsty McGregor launched the Moyra McNeil Fund in June 2010, after the passing of their friend and colleague, Moyra, who worked for enjoyleisure and before that East Lothian Council within the Loch Centre for more than 20 years running the crèche with love, compassion and devotion.

Over the last 5 years, the Moyra McNeil Fund has fundraised tirelessly, raising an incredible £30,000 which has been used to purchase the soft play unit. enjoyleisure and East Lothian Council have since worked in partnership in providing the funds required to superbly upgrade the Loch Centre to accommodate the new Wiggles Soft Play area and its additional facilities.

Susan Tully and Kirsty McGregor commented, “Every time we meet with enjoyleisure to discuss and finalise the plans for Wiggles we’re close to tears! It’s just so hard to believe that we’re almost there. We’ve been fuelled with sheer determination to make this project a reality. It’s so surreal to see our dream coming true!
We’re so incredibly proud of what the community have achieved over the past five years. When we consider what everyone has done to help us get to this point; every bake sale, bungee jump, walk, run, swim, and party … it’s just incredible. We owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to everyone who has supported not just the Fund but us personally; the local community; enjoyleisure and the Loch Centre staff; local businesses; and the invaluable support from Moyra’s family, her daughter Linsey, son Duncan and husband Brian. We couldn’t have done it without everyone’s support. We are extremely excited to see the project come to fruition and are very much looking forward to celebrating with everyone involved at the launch event”.

Local Councillor Shamin Akhtar stated, “I cannot praise the Moyra McNeil Fund volunteers highly enough. Their effort, commitment and dedication have meant they have achieved their ambition of delivering a dedicated children’s play area to the memory of Moyra. I along with my colleagues have been privileged to provide support, wherever possible to help ensure their dream became a reality. The provision of such a community resource for our children is one that will benefit the ‘new generation’, which is a brilliant epitaph for Moyra, who was a loved, wonderful, caring person.”

enjoyleisure’s Kim McGeary, Loch Centre Service Manager adds, “We hope that this fantastic facility will be enjoyed by the entire community as a true reflection of Moyra’s dedication to local children and her sense of fun.”

Wiggles opens to the public on Saturday 28th February at 9:30am. Play sessions will be restricted to 30mins on the launch day. Wiggles is suitable for children aged 0-8 years. For further details visit www.enjoyleisure.com.
