This week’s show will include a tribute to Demis Roussos who died on Monday.
He sold over 60 million albums during his career. Can you imagine that?
A legend if ever there was – and no mistake.
Our ‘Children’s Favourite’ is a song all the kids were singing in the 50’s and we’ll concentrate on 1983 in our feature ‘The Year Under The Spotlight’.
1983 saw the first music cd’s appearing in British Shops, James Dyson introducing the prototype of his revolutionary vacuum cleaner, Saga launching their Magazine and when Japanese Car maker Datsun, rebranded itself as Nissan.
We will be listening to music that made the UK charts back then including tracks from the likes of Phil Collins, Men at Work, Duran Duran and Rod Stewart.
Finally we will be checking out the top 20 best-selling UK singles in our ‘Vintage Chart’ from exactly 50 years ago. That’s the 31st. January 1965 to be precise and it’s the UK singles chart that we follow week on week. There’s a new No 1 and new entries from the Shangri Las, new Australian band – the Seekers, Brian Poole and the Tremeloes and the Kinks.
So brush back your greying locks and throw away those walking sticks and zimmers, ‘cos it’s time to stir up the old grey matter once more and for 3 hours to try and recall what you were listening to on the old wireless back at a time when you were somewhat younger than you are now, when your tv was in a wooden cabinet on a table in the corner of the room and the nearest telephone was in a red box down the road.
Join me, Andy Morris at noon (GMT) on Saturday and let’s skip the light fandango together.
And don’t forget to send in your requests and dedications for Saturday 14th. February and the GREAT St Valentines Day Lurv Show.
Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org – and I promise to include them.
Lurv you all…..
