Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent Gillian Imery explains,
The festive period is a busy time for everyone and Police Scotland will be giving advice and guidance on Keeping Safe. There will be various themes throughout the campaign period that aim to reduce the risk to law abiding members of the public and remove opportunities for criminals.
This “keep safe” message is broken down into four strands – Party Safe, Shop Safe, Home Safety and Online Safety. Chief Superintendent Imery continues,
Unfortunately there are criminals that will attempt to exploit the festive period for their own gain. They may attempt to take advantage of people who are out enjoying themselves, or exploit the fact that people are more likely to have larger sums of cash with them and high value items in their homes. We will be issuing a range of messages as the campaign continues to help people protect themselves, their property and their online integrity. All we ask is that members of the public take on board the messages that are aimed at keeping them safe at this busy time. The aim of this campaign is to Keep People Safe and to remind people that whether shopping, on-line, partying or at home – have fun, take care, stay aware.
As well as conventional media outlets, people can expect to see Police Scotland messages across social media and being shared by a range of partners. A range of police activity will supplement this across the Divisional area covering East Lothian, Midlothian, West Lothian and the Scottish Borders.
