Radio Saltire AppRadio Saltire are delighted to announce the launch of our brand new apps for Apple and Android phones and tablets.

You shouted and we listened! Our apps are available today and can be downloaded from the app stores. This creates yet another easy way to listen to your favourite radio station.

They do much more that just enable you to listen in though. The apps are fully featured and include the ability to:

  • See who’s currently on air
  • Send a request and message direct to the studio
  • Check our schedules
  • Chat with presenters and other listeners in our Chat Room
  • Read up on our latest station and local news
  • Keep up to date with our Social Media sites
  • Get hold of our full Contact Details
  • Contact our station sponsors, those advertisers that keep us on air!

The apps were made possible after the station received a grant from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust. This enabled us to pass on the hard work to our excellent team of developers.

Radio Saltire’s Chairman, Scott Gillies said:

I wish I’d had a pound for everyone that asked us about apps! Well now we’re able to deliver. These apps make it even easier to tune in to our station. Almost everybody has a device that can access our website but these apps put the station right in your pocket.

With more and more people turning to the internet when listening to music and radio, it was a road we simply had to go down.

Get Them While They’re Hot

Our apps are available in both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store, simply click the links below or search for Radio Saltire from your device.

If your hair is greyer than it used to be,
You ache in places you cannot see,

Have wrinkles where they shouldn’t be;
Yet still love the music that used to be;
Why not travel back in time with me –

Andy Morris, this Saturday and EVERY Saturday at noon with the GREAT Golden Oldies Show?

I’m back from my travels in beautiful Andalucia and ready once more for some action…..!
Rob Craig will be joining me again and together we will endeavour to bring you a show not to forget.

(We haven’t done it yet but we’re trying….)

So on Saturday…..

This week’s ‘Favourite Year’ is 1993 and will include some memorable tracks from the likes of Take That, Meat Loaf, Ace of Base, the Bluebells and UB40. We will also be having a look at what was making the headlines here in the UK back then including Ford unveiling its new car – the Mondeo; when Stephen Lawrence was stabbed to death in London and when Princess Di announced that she was seeking a divorce from Prince Charles.

We will be taking our usual peek at the ‘Vintage Chart’ by travelling back exactly 50 years to 29th. November 1964 and the week’s UK’s Top 20 selling singles. New entries this week include ‘Walk Tall’ from Val Doonican, Gene Pitney’s ‘I’m Gonna Be Strong’ and Dusty Springfield’s classic ‘Losing You’.

And we’ll start with an hour of mixed blessings that will include some of my favourites from yesteryear and a number of tracks picked by Rob – you never know, you may just hear a track you had forgotten you once knew(!) and this also is the part of the show where you can have a request or dedication included. (see below)

You will also get the opportunity to enter the ’Spot The TV Show that Grannie Used to Watch’ Competition and be in with a chance to win a rare Radio Saltire Car Sticker and I will also slot in our ‘Children’s Favourite’ and take some of you back to your youth to see if you still remember the words to a song that was always being played on the wireless back then at a time when the boys wore short trousers and many of the girls had their hair in plaits.

So throw away those walking sticks and zimmers, get those hips a swingin’, those feet a dancin’, those arms a jivin’ and let’s see you skip the light fandango with Rob and me.

To remind you – If you would like a request or a dedication – or pick a ‘Favourite Year’ – a year that means something to you, no matter where you are on this ever shrinking globe of ours, just email me 24/7 at andrew@radiosaltire.org

I do hope you can join Rob and me – and/or listen to usagain on Mixcloud later in the week.
