Alex Hodgson, a singer/songwriter from East Lothian, will be joined by his band and The Robyn Stapleton Trio at a fundraising extravaganza on Wednesday September 24th at Archerfield Walled Garden. The ticket price is just £12. A delicious 2 course pre-show buffet for £15 will be available from 5.30pm in The Walled Garden Restaurant and booking is recommended. A combined show and dinner ticket is available at a special price of £25. The event is on behalf of local community radio station, Radio Saltire.
With a musical career spanning several decades, Alex has performed at the Queen’s Ghillie Ball in Balmoral for the last five years, at the Scottish Parliament, and has been a guest and presenter on many radio shows including BBC Scotland and Radio Forth 2. His music is distinctively Scottish, with both a charm and humour that reflect his background and love of music. Alex is also keen on amateur dramatics, performs in stage productions and loves entertaining children. With a big heart and a big voice he is sure to get toes tapping. Just back from a trip to the USA, Alex has also entertained audiences in many other countries overseas including South Africa and Malaysia. His new CD “The Brig Tae Nae Where” was released by Greentrax on August 1st.
BBC Radio Scotland’s Young Traditional Musician of the Year, Robyn Stapleton graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with a First Class Honours degree in Scottish Music. There she specialised in Scots Song under the guidance of Rod Paterson and Gordeanna McCulloch. During her degree, Robyn spent one year at the Irish World Academy, Limerick, where she met guitarist and banjo player Hajime Takahashi and multi-instrumentalist Stephen Heffernan. With their shared passion for traditional music and a desire to communicate the depth and beauty of traditional songs, the Robyn Stapleton Trio was formed
Since meeting in 2011, Robyn, Hajime & Stephen have been performing together across the UK at events such as the Commonwealth Concert at Glasgow’s Pacific Quay, on BBC Alba’s Na Trads and has appeared on national TV and radio and at at several Folk Festivals. Robyn will be singing with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra at Proms in The Park in September. This is her first performance in East Lothian and we look forward to welcoming her to Archerfield Walled Garden!
