My artists of the show this week are Irish Band – ‘Westlife’
These lads had an amazing career that ran from 1998 to 2012. During this time they sold over 45 million records and left a legacy which contains some very memorable tracks.
I will be playing six of their hits during the show: – ‘Flying without Wings’, ‘If I let you Go’, ‘Uptown Girl’, ‘You Raise Me Up’, ‘When You Tell Me That You Love Me’ (with Diana Ross) and ‘I Have a Dream’.
HOWEVER, if there is a ‘Westlife’ track you would specifically like me to include, just get in touch* and I’ll do my best.
The Classic Corner this week features a bit of opera. ‘Nabucco’, which was written by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi includes a terrific piece called the ‘Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves’ and it is this that I have researched and will be playing. It is also a tune that I am sure you will recognise as soon as I start to play it. So if you’re a classical music dummy like me, tune in at about 11.30 to hear what I have found out.
There is to be a new feature this week. Many of you know that I run a website called ‘Jokers Wild’ which I describe as ‘the site for discerning minds with a sense of humour’.
Each week, I am sent dozens of jokes from all over the place and I post the best of the bunch up there on a regular basis. So from this week I will be including the ’Joke of the Week’ taken from the Jokers Wild website.
Should be good.
As usual we will take a look back in history to find out what has happened here in the UK in years past and there will be our weekly competition ‘Name the TV Programme Granny used to Watch Competition’, where you have to identify an old tv programme from a tiny snippet of the signature tune that was used to introduce it. Hey, and you can win a Radio Saltire Car Sticker too if you get it right.
All this plus an eclectic mix of golden oldies, newer stuff and some current chart tracks too.
A great show in prospect then and it all kicks off at 10.00 a.m. on Wednesday.
Join me if you can.
