On Friday 6th June, Andrew Innes Plumbing & Heating Ltd donated a defibrillator to enjoyleisure’s General Manager Bill Axon. This is for use at the Forester Park facilities in Tranent.

Following the tragic death last year of a young man playing football in Edinburgh, Tranent business man, Mr Innes felt he wanted to do something to prevent something like this happening in his local community. Andrew explains

I have a son, very close to his age. The thought of losing a child so young and full of potential was devastating.

The tragedy got me thinking about my local community and its own youth football team. I got in touch with Tranent Football Club and enjoyleisure to find out what I could do to prevent such an incident occurring here.

Bill Axon added,

We are very grateful to Andrew for his generous donation of a defibrillator to the Forester Park facility. This act of community spirit will enable enjoyleisure to provide extra reassurance to all users of the facility whether they are schools, community clubs, players and spectators. This valued contribution comes at a time when enjoyleisure is about to install defibrillators within its major facilities across the county.

We’ve changed our Programme Schedule slightly and from now on, ‘AM into the PM’ will be broadcast on Wednesdays.

In a programme fuller this week than a tin of sardines I will be chatting to a man who spent almost 40 years in the Police. He attained the position of Divisional Commander in South Lanarkshire, Assistant Chief Constable for the Strathclyde Force and became Director General of the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency.

Nowadays he spends most of his time fulfilling his duties as a regional MSP for South Scotland.

Graeme Pearson

He is Graeme Pearson and I will be finding out a bit more about the man and the side of him not normally seen by the general public when we get together in the studio a little after the News Bulletin at noon

The Queen’s Baton will soon be appearing within East Lothian and I will be talking to 12 year old Oliver Stevens who has been selected to represent his school – Loretto Junior School and carry the Baton through part of Musselburgh on Tuesday 17th. June.
My chat with Oliver is scheduled for shortly after 11.00 am.

There are the usual regulars including at about 10.30 a look back at ‘This Day in History’ to see what happened here in the UK on 11th. June in times past – helped along as usual by Howard and his terrific website – Beautiful Britain.

Our sojourn into the world of classical music in our Classical Corner spot this week takes us to Venice and a famous piece by Johann Strauss ll. Who can forget the opening shots of Arthur C. Clarke’s epic film ‘2001’ where the space shuttle is shown, gracefully matching the rotation of and finally docking with the Space Station? The fabulous backdrop is the Earth and the music…….?
It is of course, ‘The Blue Danube’ or ‘An der schonen blauen Donau, Op. 314’ to give it it’s proper name.
As you are probably aware, I’m a self-confessed Classical Music Dummy so I have been researching this piece of (not so classical) music and I’ll be sharing what I found out with you– and listening to it too at around 11.30

Then of course there’s this week’s competition. Where would we be without this week’s competition? Three lucky listeners will each win a Radio Saltire Car Sticker. All you have to do is answer a simple question and email, text or call me at the studio on the phone  during the show with your answer. All correct entries will be entered into the hat and the winners drawn out and announced at around 12.45 pm.

This week’s featured artist is Elton John and I’ll be playing half a dozen or so of his tracks that I’m sure you will be familiar with during the show too.

So put the kettle on, settle back and join me if you can – on Wednesday from 10.00 in the forenoon.

‘AM into the PM’

Andy Morris into the Afternoon.

Only on Radio Saltire.

I’ve just spent an hour or so with some guests who are staying at Whatton Lodge in Gullane which is a convalescent home for retired miners in the Lothians. We chatted about why they enjoy coming here every year. David Brown, who is chairman of the management committee, is joining me on the show on Sunday to tell us all about it.

Join me for 11am till 1pm.image
