During this week’s ‘AM into the PM’ I will be getting over the Spring Bank Holiday.
If you are back at work, my commiserations, if you are stuck at home, my felicitations and if you are cramming for your exams, my great expectations.
No guests this week for a change but I will of course be including a number of regular features during the show beginning at about 10.30 with this week’s look back at ‘Today in History’ to see what happened here in the UK on 6th. May in times past – with the help of Howard and his terrific website – Beautiful Britain.co.uk
This week’s Classical Corner – the spot for classical music dummies like me, takes us into world of ballet and Tchaikovsky’s wonderful Nutcracker Suite. As you know, although I love much of it, I don’t know much about classical music so I have been researching this piece of music and a bit about Tchaikovsky himself. I’ll be sharing a little about what I found out about him and this wonderful piece of music with you – and listening to it to of course at around 11.30.
Our artist(s) of the week is the iconic British Band of the 1980’s – Culture Club with their colourful lead singer Boy George. I’ll be playing a number of tracks by them throughout the show including ‘Do You Really Want To Hurt Me’, ‘Karma Chameleon’ and their take on ‘The Crying Game’ which was made famous by an old pal of mine – Dave Berry back in the 60’s.
Then there’s this week’s competition. Once again, we have three Radio Saltire Car Stickers up for grabs and all you have to do is answer a simple question and email or text me during the show with your answer. All correct entries will be entered into the hat and the three winners drawn out and announced at around 12.45 pm. And this week’s question is:
East Lothian’s iconic newspaper ‘The East Lothian Courier’ was first published (in its original guise) when?
Was it in a) 1859 b) 1899 or c) 1929?
Our Car Stickers are fast achieving cult status.
So if you don’t know the answer but want to impress –
Send me an email and try a wild guess.
Entries (during the show only) by email: studio@radiosaltire .org – or by text on our brand new number (so much easier than the old one) – 07507 33 22 44
And don’t forget to give us a contact number so we can call you back if you’ve won – to find out where to send your sticker.
As usual, I will open up a link on our Facebook page too during the show so if you would like a request or a dedication, you can post it there, email me, call me at the studio or text me – and I’ll do my best to oblige.
I hope you can join me.
