A 17-year-old male has been arrested and charged with alleged reckless conduct following the discharge of flares in North Berwick.
A group of youths arrived in the town earlier today and during their visit six flares were stolen from a beached boat.
Five of these were then buried in the sand, while one was set off.
Police and coastguard attended and recovered three of the buried flares. However, two remain unaccounted for. A police spokesman said: “Flares are an essential tool for alerting maritime officials to persons in danger while at sea. They are not toys.
“Officers will continue to search for the missing flares. However, dog walkers, joggers and other beach users should contact police immediately if they come across these items .”
The male is scheduled to appear in Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday 23rd July.
