Police in East Lothian are appealing for witnesses following a bag snatch that happened in Prestonpans yesterday (Wednesday).

The incident happened around 4.20pm in West Loan.

The 78-year-old victim was walking in the car park area on the corner of West Loan when a man rushed passed her and snatched a carrier bag from her hand. The bag contained no items of value.

He is described as 5ft 10ins tall, wearing a beige beanie hat and a beige hooded top.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “While the victim was not hurt, she was understandably shaken as a result of what happened, and we are appealing for any information that can help us trace the suspect.

“Anyone who was in the area of West Loan Prestonpans yesterday, who either witnessed the incident or noticed anyone acting suspiciously there, should contact police immediately.

“Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect should also get in touch.”
